A lot of articles are in the process of being thought about... A a start, here is what happened to me recently.

Tuesday evening, I went to a quite pleasant whisky tasting eveningat the Wavre Hotel, in Wavre (who would have guessed it!). This event was thrown together by Vincent Selection, a wine & spirit merchant from the same city, and hosted by an italian exiled to Scotland and working for Inver House Distillers (I forgot his name...). Inver House owns five distilleries in Scotland, but only two of them where represented at the tasting : Knockdhu & Balblair.

The whiskies on offer were AnCnoc 1994, 16 yo & 1975 for the first distillery; and the Balblair 1997, 1989 & 1975 for the second. My favourite of the evening was by far the Balblair 1975, 100% aged in spanish sherry casks. The influence of these casks is undeniable, and it has a complex nose of dried fruits and toffee, and a spicy taste with dark chocolate notes and some bitter orange also... Yummy! The 1989 vintage wasn't bad at all either, a good value for money bottling with an interesting nose of coffee toffee (like Mokatine sweets)... On the AnCnoc side, the 1975 vintage was also the best of the range in my opinion. With a fruit and vanilla nose with some oak touches, it is quite sweet on the palate, nearly sirupy, with candied fruit (christmas cake style). Not bad, but more sweetish than the Balblair 75.

Vincent Selection regularly organizes this kind of tasting evenings. If you want to be kept posted about these, just subscribe to the mailing list on his website (www.vincentselection.be).

Slainte!

-AntoineToinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11141282723979982335noreply@blogger.com
